Happy birthday to our one true Squishy!
One year. Wow. Just wow. We can’t believe we made it. It was just yesterday we were eagerly waiting for our Squish. One year out and we feel like our life is just as new.
This parenting journey has been equal parts rewarding and frustrating. I don’t think Tim and I have ever laughed as hard or yelled at each other more than in this past year. And all it takes is a hug at the end of a long, long day to reset us for the next. Are we better people for being parents? I honestly don’t know. We feel, though, that we can brave anything for the sake of Squishy’s happiness. Nothing now will ever be more important.
Squish is pure sunshine. He’s a mile a minute. He’s an evil genius and the gentlest soul. Squishy’s showing us more and more who Orion is with each passing day. Apparently, Orion is someone who likes to yell a lot because he has a voice that should be heard. He’s someone who likes to plan first, then do. He’s someone who’s not afraid to demand hugs and attention. He’s someone who will forgive easily and would never think to withhold a smile. Squishy is showing us that Orion is an interesting person with value and heart. It wouldn’t hurt, we think, to be more like him just a little bit.
Squish is our whole world. He makes every dream come true, every joy richer, every smile perfect. We’re counting our blessings today because we know we’re lucky to have one another. Seriously. God is great and we see Him in our Squish everyday.
We want to thank our family and friends for helping us get through this year. Thanks to the amazing caregivers at St. Andrew’s Children’s Center for loving our son so much and encouraging his curiosity. Thanks to my mommy groups for being the village I desperately needed at times. And thank you to Facebook and YouTube for basically raising our son.
Thank you to my brother, Gilbert, for allowing us to name our son after him and guiding our Squish from above.
And loving thanks to our parents for doing their parenting thing so many years ago with Tim and I.
We love you, Orion Gilbert. Happy, happy birthday to you. xoxo, Mama & Dada
